British and American Studies and Going on exchange, Latvia
BAS Camp, 2014 |
BAS program does not have huge amount of students, compared with other majors even though we are a lovely warm family among teachers and students.
I am a BASers batch 15. My name is Sarocha Chaemthim, studying at British and American Studies, Liberal Arts, Thammasat University. I still remember my freshmen year, being excited with freedom. Now I as a senior, looked around and saw the great number of BASers which are increasing every year. I know our family is getting bigger.

I would say studying at BAS program is not that easy for me, but it motivates and inspires me at the same time. United Kingdom and United States of America have been powerful countries and influenced other countries in many aspects, such as culture and social events.
My classmate and I explore those two countries with the intellectual teachers. Then we apply the knowledge into our daily life. My point of view toward the world and human being are changed by reading literature and viewing artworks. Everything happens for a reason. I turned to be a person who has opinions and like to discuss.

One of various goals in my university life was going on exchange. With the support and help partly from BAS program and Office of International Affairs, Thammasat University, my dream became true. In 2015, I studied one academic year at University of Latvia, Riga, The Republic of Latvia. To find myself, I stepped out of comfort zone to be more confident and more independent. It was memorable experience.
Spring Semester, LU, 2015 |
I met hundreds of foreign friends from all over the world. We were different both personalities and ideologies, but we could live together happily. I learned to respect the differences. Education in Latvia, based on European Union Education was totally new for me. It challenged me, and kept me to be active on study. I was the only Thai exchange student in the university, so I tried my best to be a good representative.
On holidays I traveled to other countries, expanding my vision about the world. However, I realized that many of them are not perfect countries. It opens my eyes and my heart to love Thailand more than I used to.
